Mitch Freedman
Hi I’m Mitch, a recent graduate of McGill university majoring in psychology. I’ve spent three summers working as a camp counselor, two of which were working the sports program at another day camp. I also currently volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal organization as a mentor. I’ve tried to remain active throughout my life through various sports (hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc.) and weightlifting as I feel strongly that a healthy body is necessary for a healthy mind. Sports are a great outlet for personal development, teaching discipline and a mastery-oriented approach to learning; skills that are crucial to success in other aspects of life. I can’t wait to spend this summer helping kids have fun, stay active, learn new skills and hopefully win a few championships along the way!

DANIEL SAILOFSKY

Daniel Sailofsky
Hi, my name is Daniel and I’m a Law student at Université de Montreal. I’ve been coaching basketball for four years with kids aged 10-14, and last year began coaching at the CEGEP level at Champlain College as well. I’ve also worked at Redwood Day Camp as both a counselor and sports specialist for the past four years working with children of all ages and skill levels. Growing up, I used to think there was nothing quite like scoring an overtime winner, hitting a buzzer beating jumper, or striking out the side. Since my athletic career began winding down however (sadly, I’ll never make the pros), I’ve learned that coaching your own team as they accomplish those same goals can be just as sweet. Be it hockey, baseball, basketball, football, tennis or pretty much anything else, I live and breathe sports. Nearly all my free time is spent playing, coaching, watching, reading and learning about the sports I love, and I can’t wait to share this knowledge and this passion with the young athletes of SportLife! In my mind, coaching and helping young people improve is the most rewarding experience a person can have, and I look forward to helping my players/campers grow as athletes and as individuals on our road to the championship. Let’s have some fun!

Hey my name is Adam, I’m 22 years old and I’m a third year accounting student at John Molson School of Business. For almost my entire life, I have been involved with sports. From a young age, I began playing hockey and baseball and continue to do so today. I have also been golfing regularly for numerous years as and have recently started playing flag football competitively as well. Six years ago, I realized I wouldn’t be able to play all these sports forever and I started coaching hockey. I really enjoyed being able to teach and develop player skills and make a difference in their game. I have been coaching hockey for the past six years for kids aged 12-18 and have worked at a sleepaway camp the past three summers as a sports specialist with kids aged 7-15. Prior to SportLife, I worked at a hockey camp for three years, teaching and training kids the basic fundamentals of hockey. Sports play a huge role in my life and I can’t wait to teach the kids what I have learned, as well as improve their game and make them future superstars!

JAMES FLOREANI
Coach
James Floreani
What’s up Sportlifers? My name is James (or coach J-FLO) and I will be entering my final year at Concordia University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Education. As a kid, I lived for sports. I played and excelled at basically every sport you can name, but I ended up sticking with football and playing out in British Columbia on full scholarship. I came back to Montreal last year and recently founded a non-profit organization called the Stay Up Campaign (stayupcampaign.com), which focuses on building the three C’s (Confidence, Character and Coping Mechanisms) in youth all the while demoting bullying and depression. Your youth shapes who you become as an individual and so I strongly believe that helping kids’ build the three C’s is essential to their development. If a camp like SportLife was around when I was a kid, you already know I’d be begging my parents to go every week. I’m happy to be part of the SportLife team and I look forward to helping kids live out their dream of becoming a professional athlete for the summer!

As a coach at SportLife, I hope to share my love of sports with the campers and teach them to lead a healthy lifestyle, while having the time of their lives!

Will Strachan
Hey guys, my name is Will and I recently graduated from John Abbott College in the Honours Social Science with Math program. I will be attending the University of Toronto in the fall, studying mathematics and economics. Sports have been a part of my life since a very young age, and throughout the years, I have been heavily involved in coaching, playing and officiating. I have played competitive hockey, soccer and baseball for the past ten years, which has allowed me to develop a passion for healthy athletic competition, but which has also allowed me to understand the values that sports teach young athletes. As a level 3 hockey referee and a senior league baseball umpire, I understand how to manage the game, while at the same time making sure all those involved are playing fairly and safely. I also have experience coaching young children how to improve their skating abilities at the Can-Skate program. I am really looking forward to sharing my knowledge of various sports, as well as helping young athletes improve their skills over the summer.

Garrett Grossman
Hi, my name is Garrett Grossman! I am 17 years old and am currently entering my first year at Dawson College in Commerce, following my graduation from West Island College. Ever since I was little, sports have been a huge part of my life. I have always been especially interested in hockey, as it was my number one sport from the age of 3. However, I also play baseball, basketball, touch football, golf and many others. I think sports is something that has the ability to teach kids responsibility, but also allows them to discover details about themselves. Over the years, I have been a camper at CBB of Ottawa as well as a CIT, an experience that showed me a lot about working with children. Looking forward to many great weeks at SportLife!
